He had a name. It was Edward River.
And he was created, by Conrad Miller, for a purpose. That purpose was to heed Conrad’s words in the many Volumes he had compiled, and search out the truth behind Edward’s reason for existence - a truth that would both define his life, but also alter the very face of the City itself.
With the help of a creature, called the Rook, Edward searches the City for the Volumes he is tasked with finding - the truth is laid there, within those Volumes, if Edward has only the eyes to see it. Yet first he needs to grow, so that the words might make sense.
But he had run out of time, and the Proctors, or Guardians With Wings, were after him. Edward was only a few minutes old.
Outside the Gasten were rising, ethereal and non corporeal. They were called the Dawn Light, or the Light of the Morning, their humanoid form floating up, serenity etched on the faces, coming from the City, past The Above, or Phantasma, and beyond.
And Edward River found himself standing on the edge of a Skyport. He didn't quite know why, but he jumped. Below, the City was crowded through industry; sloping from the Pyramid pointed centre, to the Ridge, the Curved Bundle, and the Wedge, all the way through to the Drift, which lay underground. And it seemed Edward had nothing but a short future. The question was now which would kill him; the ground or the Proctors?
The Book is a Fantasy Fiction, exploring the ideas and motivations of a progressive man stuck in a world full of individuals who are only interested in what they can get. What if there was a hero, who cared for all? And yet, there is one final truth, which is not revealed until the end.
